Under state law, the N.C. Department of Labor is responsible for promoting the health, safety and general well-being of more than 4 million workers. The laws and programs the department administers affect every worker--and virtually every person--in the state.  More information can be found at http://www.dol.state.nc.us/.

Posters
Businesses seeking labor law posters may call a toll-free number to order the publications at no charge and avoid paying private companies for the information. The number is 1-800-LABOR-NC. The posters, which contain updated information, will be mailed at no charge. Poster information may also be viewed on the Department of Labor web site at http://www.nclabor.com/pubs.htm#Posters. (order code 1400)  Posters combine labor law posting requirements under state occupational safety and health lows, wage and hour laws and employment security laws. Employers are required to display the posters in their businesses where workers can see them. Although employers are required to display the posters, they are not required to purchase them. Some poster companies have sent notices out to employers attempting to sell the information. Advertisements have asked for as much as $50 for information contained in the posters. The ads often maintain that paying for the poster is better than paying the fine for not having the poster displayed. The labor law posters are FREE. Do not pay for them!
